Research In Motion's (RIM) latest and greatest, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone, isn't yet available in the United States--or elsewhere--but that didn't stop me from getting my thumbs on the new slider.

Announced by RIM and AT&T last week at a press event in New York City, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 will retail for $199.99 along with a two-year service commitment when it's released by AT&T on Thursday, August 12.

I'm holding my full review of the Torch until I can put it through the appropriate paces, but I thought I'd post up the following unboxing video for folks like me who are anxious for every little Torch-tidbit available.

The most notable observations from my unboxing video: The BlackBerry Torch 9800 ships with a "new" power-source that I've never seen in any other RIM device, an F-S1 battery, which is both shorter and slightly thicker than the battery found in RIM's Bold 9000 and Bold 9700 smartphones; the Torch comes with RIM's new USB/cable charger combo, i.e., you no longer get two separate cords for syncing and charging, and the actual USB charging adapter is significantly smaller than the older "blade-style" charger that ships with most modern BlackBerrys; and its micro USB cable is significantly longer than the micro USB cords that came with recent BlackBerry smartphones.

Check out the clip below for my BlackBerry Torch 9800 slider video unboxing. And visit RIM's website for more official details.

Hardware tokens were a popular method of strong authentication in past years but the cumbersome provisioning and distribution tasks, high support requirements and replacement costs have limited their growth. The additional log-in steps that hardware tokens require and the resulting user frustrations have limited adoption and make them impractical for larger scale partner and customer applications.
