BlackBerry Users, Admins Get Enterprise-Friendly Google Maps Mobile

Google Maps for mobile, one of the best free mobile mapping and navigation applications available for BlackBerry and other smartphones, is now more enterprise friendly thanks to a number of tweaks that make the app simpler for BlackBerry administrators to securely deploy.
According to a Monday posting on the Google Mobile Blog, the company has released new installation methods for Google Maps for mobile in corporate environments.
The new installation options include the ability to download an ALX package so the application can be quickly deployed to all of an organization's BlackBerry users; a new JAD/COD package that enables administrators to host the Google Maps for mobile files internally and have staffers install the app on an individual basis; and a "workaround" ALX package that enables organizations running BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) v4.1.5 maintenance release (MR) 1 or earlier to circumvent a known bug that can complicate the deployment of apps like Google Maps. Google Maps for mobile is the latest consumer-oriented BlackBerry application that has received modifications meant specifically for business smartphone users. Just last month, RIM announced that its popular BlackBerry Messenger instant messaging application got a number of new enterprise-oriented features.
Parties interested in additional information about Google Maps mobile for the enterprise can sign up for e-mail notifications.
And non-enterprise BlackBerry users can download Google Maps for mobile online for free.
