RIM's WES ’09: Bloggers Predict the Future of BlackBerry...and It Is Good (VIDEO)

to Mobile/Wireless |

Last week, at Research In Motion’s (RIM) annual Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES) in Orlando, I represented CIO.com and the Mobile WorkHorse blog in a panel discussion focused on the future of the BlackBerry platform. More specifically, I, along with four of the Web’s most venerable BlackBerry-blog-smiths, offered up my top three predictions for the BlackBerry platform in the coming three years.

You’ll want to watch the below video for specifics, but I will say this: Each and every one of us has VERY high expectation for RIM and for BlackBerry...and one even thinks RIM could soon acquire Palm. How ‘bout that, Apple?

The panel, entitled “Blogger Panel: The Top Three Predictions for BlackBerry,” was organized by BoxTone, a WES gold sponsor and a maker of BlackBerry infrastructure monitoring software. Participants included myself, Kyle McInnes from BlackBerryCool.com, IntoMobile.com’s Simon Sage, Howie Rappaport from Port3101.org, and last but certainly not least, Kevin Michaluk of CrackBerry.com fame.

Check out the video and let me know what you think. Agree or disagree with any prediction in particular? Think you can see the BlackBerry-future more clearly than we do? Now’s your chance to shine; share your feedback in the comments below.

And for more on WES, read “Best of WES 2009: The Top 10 BlackBerry Products and Services,” and “WES 2008: My Five Favorite New BlackBerry Products and Services.”

Hardware tokens were a popular method of strong authentication in past years but the cumbersome provisioning and distribution tasks, high support requirements and replacement costs have limited their growth. The additional log-in steps that hardware tokens require and the resulting user frustrations have limited adoption and make them impractical for larger scale partner and customer applications.
