Last week, AT&T announced that its iPhone customers would get free access to all of the company's 17,000 or so Wi-Fi hot spots in establishments including Barnes & Noble, Starbucks and McDonalds. I was also told that BlackBerry Bold 9000 users with unlimited data plans would get the same treatment following the device's launch on November 4. After a few hiccups, the free iPhone Wi-Fi seems to be up and running, but I'm still unable to connect to the Wi-Fi network at my local Barnes & Noble using the Bold. And frankly, that sucks.

After countless delays and even more hype, Research In Motion's (RIM) high-end BlackBerry Bold 9000 smartphone will soon hit the United States. Depending on where you look, interested parties can expect to pay as little as $299 on contract and as much as $799 without one. That's quite the pricing disparity with many a price point in between...

Late last week, I came across a blog post on Wired.com entitled "BlackBerry Bold Loses Against iPhone in Browser Race." Naturally, as I (obsessively) follow both the Apple iPhone and Research In Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry smartphone line, the story immediately caught my eye. But after only a few seconds of watching the video that accompanied the post, it was clear that this particular "test" was flawed.

Research In Motion (RIM) is expected to release its much anticipated, 3G smartphone, the BlackBerry Bold, in North America within the coming weeks, but the steep price tag tied to the new device just may come as a surprise to many of the folks eagerly awaiting its release. Not me, though...and here's why.

Last month CIO.com sister publication PCWorld.com posted an article entitled "BlackBerry Bold Beats iPhone to the 3G Punch." The story was written to announce the official unveiling of RIM's latest—and greatest to date—BlackBerry smartphone, but it rubbed me the wrong way from the start.

With the unveiling of Research In Motion's (RIM) BlackBerry Bold in May and Apple's next-generation iPhone 3G a month later, there's been a lot of hype around third-generation (3G) data connections for smartphones. Frankly, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

Research In Motion (RIM) finally unveiled its new smartphone on Monday, dubbed the BlackBerry Bold, and the company set up a booth at its annual Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES) in Orlando, Fla., so attendees like myself could check out the new wares. Read more »
