I don't know about you, but the thought of being crammed into a middle seat between two folks yapping away on cell phones during a flight literally sends spasms down my spine.

It seems like common sense: walking, or worse, biking down a busy city street while texting on a BlackBerry or other mobile device is not a very bright idea. However, U.S. emergency room physicians say that's just the problem. A growing number of Americans, particularly teenagers and young adults, are demonstrating a surprising lack of common sense when it comes to texting and "multitasking"—and texting-related injuries, such as lacerated faces and sprained ankles, are increasing accordingly.

I don't know about you, but my laptop battery never seems to last as long as I need it to. Even when it's fully charged, the notebook, a half-year old Lenovo ThinkPad T60, dies within three hours, so I can't even make it to New York from Boston via train without losing power.

A few weeks back, I reviewed four smartphones in conjunction with a handful of IT executives. In that review, I briefly touched upon the annoying buzz the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) phones caused when sending or receiving a communication in close proximity to speakers—radio, computer, car, auditorium, whatever.
