Topic: IT Organization Management

We love our jobs and the challenges that we face. But there are always aspects of a role that regularly drive us crazy.
Here's my bottom 5:
Redundant, unfocused meetings
Meetings are the most efficient way to waste hours and hours of productive time.
Do we really need the whole tech team involved in the Christmas card selection process?
And I'm not just talking about face to face either, phone conferences and demos can be just as unproductive. No agenda? Nothing important to talk about? - don't invite me.?
Generating Reports and Documentation
When writing the report or documentation becomes the largest or hardest part of a task, you've got a problem.
Many of us hate writing documentation but we know it's a necessarily evil. Whether it be responding to an off-beat RFPs or tweaking services contracts these can become big time wasters. Automation tools, being organized and templating can really help here.
Reading Reports and Documentation
If the prospect of reading supplier contracts, RFPs or convoluted specifications causes you to break into a cold sweat, you're on my side.
Have you ever tried to read Microsoft's Office Open XML specification? Part 4 alone is over 5,200 pages.
Please give me an executive summary that allows me to quickly determine if there's any buried important information and that applies to emails too.
Financials and Admin
Are you actively avoiding the CFO? Forecasting, budgeting, estimated time to complete spreadsheets, audits, compliance reports and project plans can all become major drags. Document collaboration tools can make a big difference when trying to collect data from multiple sources.
