IT Management Changes at Metavante and More

Banking technology company Metavante named EVP Gary Refinski CIO last week. Refinski, 48, succeeds Brian Hurdis in the CIO role. Hurdis was promtoed to president of the Milwaukee, Wisc.-based company's Image Solutions division in March 2007.

In his new role, Refinski will continue to oversee consulting and implementation services, integration, lending solutions and risk and compliance solutions. He is now also responsible for technical support, technology infrastructure and corporate systems. Refiniski began his 25-year career with the Milwaukee, Wisc.-based company in 1983 as a programmer.

Metavante also named SVP Dave Fortney CTO. Fortney, 43, reports to Refiniski and takes on his new title from SVP Jim Dempster, who now serves as chief software architect in charge of the design of Metavante's core banking solutions. Dempster is a 32-year veteran of the company. Fortney joined in 2002 from Paytrust, where he served as the online bill management company's CTO. Metavante acquired Paytrust in 2002.

Ravi Raghavan joined Fintura Corp. as its CIO on August 8. Raghavan comes to the Atlanta, Ga.-based portfolio management company from Equifax where he worked on strategic technology initiatives that developed credit-based products for the financial services industry. Raghavan previously worked for NASA as a research scientist. He holds master's and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from Colorado State University. He also has a master's degree in computer science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Cash America International's EVP and CIO, Jerry Wackerhagen, was promoted to president of the company's stores division on August 16. Wackerhagen's appointment came amidst a realignment of the provider of pawn loans and cash advances' senior management team. As part of the realignment, Cash America also announced that it had hired John McDorman to serve as president of its shared services division, which encompasses IT, new systems development, legal, compliance, government relations, enterprise project management and marketing.

egX Group, a global real estate securities marketplace based in Toronto, Ontario, added Derek Lynden to its management team as CIO. Lynden most recently worked for TSX Group, which operates the Toronto Stock Exchange, as its director of business solutions for four years. Prior to TSX, he worked for IBM Global Services Canada for 15 years. Lynden has a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience from the University of Toronto and has completed business development courses from IBM, Schulich School of Business and Harvard University.
