Bio

Software giant Microsoft is reviled as much as it is revered, making the Microsoft beat a balancing act for any writer. CIO.com Senior Editor Shane O'Neill embraces this balance in his blog, tipping his hat to Microsoft's triumphs and criticizing its mistakes with both serious insight and offbeat humor. With each Eye on Microsoft post, O'Neill merges hard opinion with hard data to entertain readers and challenge their assumptions about Microsoft’s products, its competitors and its customers.

Shane came to IDG Enterprise, publisher of CIO magazine and CIO.com, after stints at TechTarget, where he (somewhat reluctantly) covered the data storage industry and Ziff Davis Media, where he was an online editor for Eweek. He has also worked at Boston.com and AOL and has written freelance stories for The Boston Globe and Commonwealth magazine. Shane currently focuses on news analysis stories and blog posts about Microsoft and its various products and competitors. He resides in Boston.
